The first of four new videos

I’m really happy to be releasing the first of four live music videos filmed and recorded in the beautiful Welsh Chapel, London.

This is a new project called the James Patrick Gavin Trio and features Adrian Lever (Alma, Horses Brawl) on guitar, vocals and a dash of harmonium. Plus Tim Fairhall (Yasmin Levy, Piano Interrupted) on double bass and stand up comedy.

They are both exceptional musicians and I’m very pleased and privileged to be working with them.

Enjoy…..

What’s New?

Hello!

It’s been a while since my last update and there’s plenty of news.

The Rad Orchestra, a band I’ve been involved in for years, is finally releasing an album.

We’re launching this eagerly awaited debut with an 11-day tour of Belgium, Germany and the UK.

The Rad Orchestra sing and play hypnotic tunes on guitar, ngoni, viola, violin, fiddle, bass and percussion. They take inspiration from time-honoured song writers, Blues & Soul, minimalism and global Folk.

We’ll be joined by our friends Frogbelly and Symphony for the entirety of the tour, so check us out and tell anyone you know in the vicinity!

Standing Stone

Here it is! The third and last video from the Union Chapel launch of Chewing The Fat.

I’m sad to announce that this will be the last video I release of that awesome night, but have no fear! This one’s a banger!

One last big thank you to the people whom without their help and support this would have never happened. That includes the musicians, the crew, the Union Chapel, the audience and all the people that travelled across several countries just to get to the gig.

There’s talk of possibly touring the album January/February 2019, if that’s the case I’ll keep you all informed. Until then crank up your system to 11, sit back and enjoy the video of Standing Stone…….

If you’re interested in the story behind the tune then check out the article on FolkRadioUK.

As ever if you haven’t got a copy of the album or just fancy a listen, then click on the link- https://jamespatrickgavin.bandcamp.com/releases

Last but not least, Tommie Black-Roff is launching Crean Folk Camp this summer in his native Cornwall. This one is for all you head banging tune heads and you closet Banjo players out there………..

You’ll have tutors such as myself, Dominc Henderson, Hilary Coleman, Flora Curzon and our own  Tommie Black-Roff.
If you’re interested and fancy reading more then follow the link- https://creanfolkcamp.org/

It’s been a long while since I’ve done one of these but I have a few good reasons why.

I currently find myself in Barteheide, just north east of Hamburg on tour with Jez Hellard & The Djukella Orchestra.

For those of you who don’t know Jez and the band, you might remember him playing a couple of numbers at the end of the Union Chapel launch of Chewing The Fat.

Thanks to all of you who made it down for what was the best gig I’ve ever done. I’m very proud and humbled by all the class musicians who agreed to share the stage that night and for all the support.

It’s just about been 3 months since then and I’ve been slaving away with Paddi, Maxi and the crew editing audio and film of the night.

I’m excited to preset to you in collaboration with Sleight of Hand Records and DarkWood Media the first of three videos from the Union Chapel launch.

Here’s Mena’s Teapot…..

In other exciting new, Mr Tommie Black-Roff of TEYR and the Chewing The Fat gang are running a Folk music summer school called Crean Folk Camp.

The camp begins on the 18th of June and runs for the week, featuring a whole array of great tutors, beautiful beaches, sessions, concerts and great company.

The camp is located in Cornwall, nestled between Penzance and Lands End. I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s one of the most beautiful spots in the UK.

There are only a few places left so follow the link- https://creanfolkcamp.org/attend/

Last but not least, gigs. Believe it or not I have some, with loads of different people.

As I said before, I’m currently out in Germany with Jez and Nye tearing it up with some cracking songs and tunes.

If you find yourself with nothing to do in northern Germany for the next few days then check out the list of gigs on Jez’s website- http://www.jezhellard.com/htdocs/?page=gigs

If Germany’s no good then you’ll also find me playing not only with Jez but also TEYR this summer.

And if you’re still not happy with that, then I’ll be playing a really special gig at Plush Festival on the 5th of August with a whole of bunch of familiar faces from Chewing The Fat.

All the best and see you on the road,

James
